Yes, we got a new talent and today it is Reindier
Reindier is the moniker of Reinier van Harten from Amsterdam. I just heard the song "Cold Love" on a local station and I love it! A nice strange electronic song with James Blake'ish qualities. His high pitched voice like a solo instrument weaving the bleeps and noises together. Here's some live footage to prove his qualities. Carlos Della-Fiore produces the tracks and joins REINDIER live on stage.
Reindier is selected for Dutch showcase festival Popronde, let's hope this gives his career a nice boost!
Here are some soundcloud links to his work, enjoy!
And here's some Cold Love again :)

Todays talent Soldier's Heart has only one own song to offer but better one good song than a lot of crap!
Soldier's heart is a four headed Belgian band existing of Sylvie Kreusch, Laurens Mariën, Jasper Segers en Benjamin Cools. Their song "African Fire" is stucked in my head for weeks (thanks to the radiostations in Belgium playing it almost daily) Recently they won a national contest (Nieuwe Lichting) for young talented bands. I love the dreamy voice of Sylvie and the spherical sounds in this song. I'm curious to the next stage this band is taking. For now here's their version of Killing Moon by Echo & The Bunnymen.

Today we have Vancouvers talents Gold & Youth
The band is comprised of Matthew Lyall, Murray Mckenzie, Jeff Mitchelmore and Louise Burns.
And today they are releasing their debut album "Beyond Wilderness" and I really like it.
It has a nice 80's feeling with programmed electronic drum patterns and heavy, dark synths. Let's take a look and have a listen to "Time To Kill" The album was produced and recorded by Colin Stewart (new pornographers) and mixed by Gareth Jones (Depeche Mode, Interpol, Grizzly Bear) and Damian Taylor (Björk, Robyn), I hear some similarities with Depeche Mode / Joy Division / Roxy Music / Talk Talk / New order... I think you got the message now. Here's the song "City of Quartz"
Louise Burns, already well known for her own work as a solo artist, lending her voice to four of the album's tracks, including the first single 'Jewel'. And for the Depeche Mode lovers here's a live video of Gold and Youth playing "Enjoy the Silence"

A little delayed here's our tuesdays talent
Brushy One String

Brushy One String is from Jamaica and I've seen him in the award winning documentary called "Rise Up". Rise Up is a documentary about the Jamaican underground music. Bushy's playing a one-string guitar while tapping a beat on the guitarbody. In the documentary he's playing his song "Chicken in the Corn" on the street and I love it. The song is settled in my mind for two days now :) Here's the video.
I love it as the crowd step-by-step are singing along. I think Brushy's star will rise sky high... Here you can order his CD (after the documentary Rise Up there's a follow up "The King Of One String" a special documentary about Brushy himself). Here's a soundcloud link to the song "No Man Stop Me" And he's inspiring more people with his songs Here's the remix of "No Man Stop Me" by CM BRX (mr lucius)and I think many others will follow.. let me know if you hear one, especially of the Chicken song :) enjoy!

Tuesdays Got Talent XVII
Today we have London Electro Pop Trio Dems to surprise us.
Dems are David Gardener, Duncan Mann and Dan Moss. They produce dreamy lo-fi electronic masterpieces and 2013 will be their year! They promise us a new release every two months and their former work is so beautiful and warm it's a band to watch, at least I'll do. But first let's take a look and have a listen to "Desire" which has pricked up my ears! This song will be released the 24th of march and was a follow up for the song "Christabel". Triggered by this song I was looking for more work and was surprised that I've never heard of them before. So nice original songs, nice voices and melodies interweaving the electronic samples and drumloops/patterns. Here's for example the song "Inner O" Here are some songs via soundcloud This is "Bridesmaid" And "House" which is a beauty too You may have noticed my enthousiasm so before I put all their songs on møpkemuziek I end with the first of the every-two-month-release-songs "Christabel" enjoy! Okay then one for the road :) here's "Lioness" which was one of first songs by Dems back when it was just a solo project of Dan Moss By the way MØPKEMUZIEK is curious about your thoughts about the music we play so leave a comment if you like, you can do it even anonymous when you are affraid to offence me :)

Today we are in need of some uplifting music, due to the winter coming back this week when spring already has showed it's face last week. To ease that pain of cold harsh weather kicking us back and to bust the winter depression we call in the help from our Tuesdays Talent Jonas Alaska.
Jonas Aslaksen from Norway better know with his stagename Jonas Alaska had a break through in Norway with his debut album in 2011. The self-titled album sold to gold record (15 000), had 3 singles in the Norwegian radio charts simultaneously, and won the Norwegian Grammy (Spellemann) for best new act. Jonas is releasing his next album in Norway and Denmark very soon. The single "I Saw Your Kid" is released a month ago accompanied by this funny video
Often he is compared with Bob Dylan, but luckily he's more a music- than a lyricsman, don't understand me wrong and Bob Dylan wrote great songs but some of it's work annoys me because I don't listen to the lyrics but more to the music and then his repetivity is boring me. Last friday Jonas released a second video called "If Only As A Ghost" which is a little less light. Nice song but i'm in the wintermood again so here's some of his earlier work enjoy. Here's "In The Beackseat" Here's "Tonight" And here's the beautiful song "Oktober, we let you know when his EP is released.

Today it's the indie psychedelic rock band Stadt from Ghent to show us their skills.
How can a new young band sound so familiar and trusted? It's the sound i suppose, bringing back memories.. going back to the times of 12 minute songs, liquid slides and experiments...
here's "Bits of Time".
Stadt are Fulco Ottervanger, Frederik Segers, Joris Cool and Simon Segers.
Their upcoming debutalbum 'Some Kind of Diversion' mixes indie-rock with a small cloud of psychedelia.
Hope they have this song on it it's "Little Craver" played on their first appearance ...nice debute!

Todays talent is Anthony Chorale
Anthony Chorale is the moniker of Dutch guitarist Olivier Heim and is currently based in Warsaw. Olivier Heim is joined by Karolina Rec on cello and Thomas Pettit on drums. They released a beautiful EP called "Ambitions of the Son". It has a little bit of Sufjan Stevens, Sigur Ros, Mercury Rev and Bon Iver in it. And I think cold and dark Warsaw is reflected on the sound and style of the EP, it sounds so melancholic and maybe I'm wrong but I think to hear some homesickness in it :) but I like that. Lets listen to Wander Home.
You can listen to the entire EP via Bandcamp, enjoy
There's only one downside, the songs are too short.
On soundcloud there's some older work, which I like too, here's "In the Light Of Sleep"

It's been a while but were back with some fresh talent.
Today it is Sam Ford from London.
Sam Ford is a folk singer songwriter from London. I've seen him playing on the "Ont'Sofa" sessions with his song "The Storm" and I've had this song in my head for the rest of the day :)
Let's take a look at this session.
Good voice! Nice thing about "unknown" talent is that there is a lot to discover. I found his soundcloud link and a Demo called "Too Long Wasting". A totally different feeling and use of voice (lot higher and more crescendo). I think we are witnessing a singer who's stil discovering his own style and voice.
We end with another live session, here Sam is playing the song "He won't go" on the Clockwork Owl Sessions, enjoy! And meanwhile wait for an upcoming album.

Best of 2012 Tuesdays got Talent
And the Tuesdays got talent winner is ...NOSOYO from the Netherlands.
Their item was most looked at from all talents coming by last year.
Here's the item from oktober last year.
Todays talent is the Amsterdam 6 update: 5 piece group called NOSOYO
Nosoyo are:
Donata Kramarz ,Jasja Offermans, Joost Le Feber, David Stapel and
Wessel van der Kroef. They are going to release their debut album "Just before the faint" on 31 october in Bitterzoet in Amsterdam. It's a beautiful album with some nice compositions. Especially the opening track "Close To Me" is a beauty. Nice arranged voices and the changes with different guitar sounds work great. It reminds me of "Goodbye" from TOE (misty monday) because of the use of fender rhodes, vibraphones etc.in combination with the guitarpicking and drums, but this has more variety and changes. Another great song in my opinion is The closest to Death. You can listen to the entire album on soundcloud but first I want you to take a look at this little jewel recorded somewhere in Limburg during a writing session.
Here's the full album on soundcloud, enjoy.

Today it's time for a bit jazzy / funky / go with the flow-ish kind of talented group named Snarky Puppy.
Snarky Puppy is a 7 piece improvising Jazz / Funk / R&B group led by bassist, composer and producer Michael League. Formed in Denton, Texas in 2004, the band features a collective of nearly 30 musicians, referred to as "The Fam" on their recordings and tours. The musicians perform on a variety of instruments including guitars, keyboards, saxophones, brass, percussion and strings.
First take a look at their recording of "Things of Gold" from their fifth album "Ground Up" it's recorded live in the studio in front of a 40 person audience without any overdubs.
Snarky Puppy's leader, Michael League, was interviewed and written about in the 2010 book release "The New Face of Jazz: An intimate look at today's living legends and the artists of tomorrow" by Cicily Janus. The author cites League's self-termed music as "jafunkadansion" :) for its genre-bending qualities of instrumental and dance music. Cicily Janus also comments the "group Snarky Puppy is one of the most inventive in sound and funk since Maynard Ferguson's fusion years."
Here's the song "Young Stuff"

Today it's up to the Antwerp band Dóttir Slonza.
Dóttir Slonza is the brainchild of Izja Rutten. She made a demo and asked some strange characters to join her. Nele Paelinck, Hanne De Backer, Sara De Wilde and Bootsie Butsenzeller are those characters. They made a very nice EP called "Nurse You" and it was released june 2012. First take a look at those strange characters showing their live skills. Here they perform the title track "Nurse You".
They sound a little Poppy-ish, with nice change of rhythm and spheres...and I hear some School is Cool influences (duh..Nele Paelinck is a S=C member), sometimes it sounds a little like The Carpenters and sometimes I hear some Mingus in it... It's all in the opening track "Imperative". I also like the way they use the Bass Tuba, especially in the song Far/Near.
Here's the full 4-track EP, enjoy!

Were back! and todays talent is Square Attic
Square Attic is a Dutch band consisting of: Alwi Kruize, Randy Schilder, Tommie Janssen and Roy Laane. Formed in 2008 on a dusty attic, between lots of old boxes, all with a story. Those stories are transformed and translated into nice uplifting popsongs. Nice guitar riffs going well together with the driving drum and on top of it all Alwi's beautiful voice, sometimes they remind me a bit of "The Doves" Here's the soundcloud link to their second EP "Daily Stories". Here's the video of "Bring Me Home"

Today its Maths Time Joy in the talent issue.
Maths Time Joy is an anagram of Timothy James
Maths Time Joy is a 22 year old producer/singer-songwriter from the UK.
Yesterday he released the EP "Hideaway" and it's a beauty.
Soft electronic beats, nice relaxed flow, pitched vocal samples.. layer on layer but still with enough room in the mix so it's not cramped....it could be a nice misty monday artist :)
Here's the opening track "Let Go"
And here's the Title track "Hideaway"

Todays talent is Maïa Vidal
Maïa Vidal (born February 20, 1988) is an American-born composer, songwriter, musician, and visual artist. Currently based in Europe (primarily Barcelona and Paris).
one year and a day ago she released her cd "God Is My Bike" It was recorded in Barcelona and was released in Europe and Japan by the Belgian label Crammed Discs on October 31, 2011. It's a fresh and surprisingly mature debut album The record includes 12 tracks, all original compositions except for ‘It's Quite Alright,’ (Rancid) and features a collaboration with guitarist Marc Ribot.
Giuliano Gius Cobelli engineered, coproduced and played the trumpet and the drums while MAÏA sang and played all the other instruments. Sometimes her songs and voice reminds me of Silje Nergaard.

Todays talent is again a Belgian Band called Sleepers Reign.
This four headed band (Jasper Verdonck , Lukas Hermans, Ruben Mertens en Orson Wouters) describes their own music as minimal, dubstep, electronica. I think it's a little of it all, blended with some poppy phrases. They make some beautiful soundscapy'ish music and the vocals wrapped around the music sounds a little like a solo instrument, they often double their vocals one octave higher. Yesterday we had Poliça in the Misty Monday issue, and I think this talented band is a perfect follow up. And like you may know I love those homemade DIY videos! They do a great job in their live gigs and were finalists in Humo's Rock Rally (Belgians biggest rock contest they earned the public price).
They also made a beautiful minimalistic cover of Bob Dylans "Like a rolling stone".

Today we got a folk trio from the Netherlands (Utrecht) for the tuesdays got talent issue. They are called Oh Brave Wide Eyes
The members are: Annelotte de Graaf, Casper Broekaart en Myrthe van de Weetering.
Their songs are pure and very intimate. They released their debut EP in januari 2012 and it's called "The Tascam Recordings". All their songs are recorded analogue (Tascam is a brand of multitrack recorders). They sound a bit like Fleet Foxes and I hear some Blaudzun influences. The songs are very straightforward and pure, no overdubs, no effects, just guitar, chamber-organs (the pre-electric one they call "harmonium" in Dutch, this is a organ where you pump the air in with your feet)and their voices. Here's the song Purpose and Place.
They were a support act for Dry the River and are selected for "Popronde" a Dutch travelling festival in 32 cities across the country.
Here you can listen to their EP and if you want you can download it for free.

Tuesdays got talent II
Todays tuesdays got talent is for King Krule aka Zoo Kid. Okay confession time, he's not the unknown DIY musician anymore. With gigs from London to Poland to Paris, a million plays on youtube, reviews on Pitchfork, Rolling Stone and a released EP under the True Panther label. But the fact that I didn't know him until a week ago and also my musical friends had never heard of him was for me an indication lots of people left to discover King Krule.
Archy Marshall is the seventeen year old musician behind the King Krule moniker. Here some quotes I found on the internet. "He is a ginger kid with baby face and looks like your ordinarily awkward teenager. However, when he opens his mouth, he reveals a deep voice and artistic sensibility wise beyond his years. The face certainly doesn’t match the voice". Or what about: "King Krule, the Brit School's bohemian boy wonder. He cackles like Ian Dury, smokes like a chimney and grew up preferring Fela Kuti to S Club 7. He spits lyrics like a punk and plays guitar like a jazz maestro.
So there's something going on then. I liked the dark sphere in the songs in combination with the straight on drumsamples, the Django'ish guitarsound and the voice. With his debut single ‘Out Getting Ribs’, King Krule captured the startling voice of an emerging generation of young Londoners; his deep and mournful baritone tracing disappointment and disorientation to devastating effect.
His second release sees an expansion of vision, both musically and thematically. The ‘King Krule’ EP is the sound of a young man growing up and attempting to grapple with the realities of the world he inhabits, and a fascinating, brutal journey it is too.
Here's a youtube link to a live concert at the Mercury Lounge
