Selfish saturday

For those who care, I also produce my own music under the moniker Fodiator (after a species of flying fish) and lately I've been busy with the release of my debut album "No Reason". I'm not that good in selfpromoting and navel-gazing so it's gonna be a short post. Russian DIY and netlabel Southern City Lab offered me the chance to release my album via i-Tunes and all kind of distribution channels such as Spotify, Amazon etc...
Here you can listen to the full album
An for those who like to download the album for free click here, hope you enjoy! Nice thing about worldwide distribution is that you get unexpected reactions like this "April 25" anime video made by Scetchy Zeke: Or this muscle car video by Wheels: This is a fanvideo of a German tv-series: I hope to get more time in the future to keep this MØPKEMUZIEK blog more alive and let me know if you have any comments or music that you like to share with me.

Warm Wednesday XII

Today Trixie Whitley is giving us the warmth we need here because it's getting cold in these regions.
Trixie Whitley was born in Ghent, Belgium, into a family deeply immersed in the worlds of art and music. A nomad at heart, her early years were split between Ghent and New York City. In late 2008, legendary producer Daniel Lanois (U2, Bob Dylan, Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel, Neil Young) contacted Trixie and invited her to the Berklee School of Music, where he was in residence. Their stunning collaboration of Trixie’s song “I’d Rather Go Blind” – with drummer Brian Blade (Joni Mitchell, Wayne Shorter, Joshua Redman) – was filmed and started to create an immediate buzz in music circles. Soon, with the addition of bassist Daryl Johnson (The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, the Neville Brothers), a super group – Daniel Lanois’ Black Dub – was born. Here's that beautiful song of that fruitful collaboration. Trixie Whitley’s magnetic presence and stunning voice captivated audiences worldwide in 2010 and 2011 as she toured the world performing with Black Dub. During the Black Dub recording sessions, she also recorded her second EP, The Engine, featuring her own music, and began preparing to record her debut as a leader. In late 2011, she released Live at the Rockwood Music Hall, a 5 song EP of her solo performance recorded at Rockwood in New York City. In early 2012, Trixie began work on her first full-length record, Fourth Corner, with producer/keyboardist Thomas Bartlett (aka Doveman, who’s also worked with Glen Hansard, Antony and the Johnsons, Grizzly Bear and the National) engineer Pat Dillett (David Byrne, St. Vincent, Mary J. Blige), and string arrangements by Rob Moose (Antony, Bon Iver). I think it is going to be a killer! Listen for example to the song "I need your love". I love the guitar feedback sound echoing at the background. Here she's playing the same song live...enjoy ...By the way she's also playing at Eurosonic Festival in Groningen (Netherlands) this weekend.

Fiddles on Friday VIII

Today it's up to Wim Baeck to give us some shivers.
Wim Baeck from Belgium started playing the violin at the age of 7. Later on he went to study the art of painting at St-Lukas in Brussels, Belgium. And he became familiar with sculpting and goldsmith's art. Eventually he found a way to bring together his several passions: becoming a violin maker. He followed classes and internships in Belgium and Norway. Besides building violins he is still very active in the music scene. He teaches violin at the Muziekpublique Academy and is a part of the music group Balacordes together with Tristan Driessens. In this video where he plays the song "Joot" on a self made hardanger fiddle (Norwegian violin) with gut strings which at the end of the tune suffered from the heat of the spots :) Here he is playing with his band Sourdine. which unfortunately ceases to exist. Its a compilation of songs. Enjoy and have a nice weekend.

Fiddles on Friday V

Today we have Hooverphonic in our Fiddles on Friday theme.
Hooverphonic is a Belgian band. Normally their music is very produced if you know what I mean. It's studio music with lots of synth-strings / horns and effected guitars. I love their music (most songs are arranged and produced by Alex Callier) songs as "Mad About You" "Jackie Cane" or "Sometimes" are classics and I follow this group since the late nineties. They had a few changes in their cast and since a year or so they have a new singer Noémie Wolfs. But now, now they made an orchestral cd with their own songs and some covers in a classic orchestrated arrangement. Just enjoy this and have a nice weekend This is such a beautiful version of the Massive Attack song "Unfinished Sympathie". Here you can hear Sometimes And to end with some violins here's "Mad About You"
